COWD DONATES MATERIALS RECOVERY FACILITY (MRF) TO BARANGAY PAGATPAT FOR EARTH DAY 2022
April 22, 2022
As climate change has emerged to be the biggest threat to the survival of the planet, the United Nations (UN) has called for investing in the planet. Earth Day this year is based on the theme "invest in our planet" amid strong signs from the planet as intense floods and changing climate threaten its survival. While the COVID-19 pandemic has led to extreme human suffering, threats of the planet warming up under the effects of climate change are set to worsen the situation.
The city of Cagayan de Oro is by no means exempted to the effects of climate change as flooding despite of not so heavy or moderate rain shower, is being experienced. Amongst several factors attributing to climate change, solid waste management remains on the top list of possible solutions. While the local government per City Ordinance No. 13378-2018, or the ?Integrated Eco-biological Solid Waste Management Ordinance?, mandates a ?no segregation, no collection? policy, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) says that they have not yet fully implemented of the new ?no segregation, no collection? policy for solid wastes after some residents in various barangays are still unaware on the new policy.
COWD in its effort to cushion the effect of climate change, partnered with CLENRO for this year?s celebration of Earth Day by donating Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to Barangay Pagatpat. While CLENRO representative Lynette Niane C. Lumantas introduced ?TRASH TO CASH BACK? system to the local officials of Barangay Pagatpat as way of encouraging locals to segregate solid wastes, Committee on Environment Chairperson Ronny Vidal Obsioma of Barangay Pagatpat welcomed and accepted the MRF donated by COWD.
